The collection documents the career and life of Frederick S. McMurray (1879-1958), beginning with his training at the New York Nautical School (now the SUNY Maritime College) on the Schoolship "St. Mary's" through his years as an instructor at the New York Nautical School and his service with the United States Navy.

The collection contains ninety-seven documents, eighty-nine of which are Certificates of Discharge issued by the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation of the United States Coast Guard during the period from 1939 to 1980. Ports mentioned include New York, Baltimore and Houston. Among the names of ships are the STEEL SURVEYOR and the STEEL AGE. The remaining documents consists of other types of certificates and licenses related to Tate's career.

This collection documents the career of Malcolm Peters Nash from his education at the New York Nautical School (now SUNY Maritime College) through his service with the United States Navy and his years with the Naval Reserve. The collection consists of documents, diaries, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, artifacts and ephemera.

Contents of Collection The Phylipp Dilloway Papers contain materials from his time at sea on the training ship USMSTS American Pilot (also known as the Empire State I), his later career as a consultant for Dunlap & Associates, research materials associated with his book "Class of October 1946", and other materials from his career and personal life.
