Letters were addressed to Hendrickson’s home in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens (then known simply as Springfield) or to overeseas ports in care of the St. Mary's. Correspondents included classmates from the St. Mary's, friends from his home neighborhood, and friends he made while on shore leave at port-of-call.

As part of the original 1999 processing, the archivist transcribed a sentence from each item “to try to convey some of its tone… All spellings are as found in the text, and the only changes provided on occasion is an added punctuation mark if needed.” Click each letter title to read the transcribed excerpt.
