Empire State VI Records, 1990-2012

Overview

The Empire State VI was used by SUNY Maritime College as its training ship from 1990 to today. The ship was used to train cadets for their careers in the Merchant Marines and the Naval Reserves. This collection also contains administrative documents, cruise itineraries, correspondence, news articles and "Plan of the Day".

Howard L. Humphries Papers

Scope and Contents

The Howard L. Humphries papers span the dates of 1936 -2001, with the bulk of the items from the late 1950’s-the mid 1970’s. The collection contains photographs, correspondence, and printed materials. The majority of the correspondence pertains to the Alumni Association, of which Howard L. Humphries was president from 1974-1975. The Centennial Anniversary of the school was celebrated in 1974 and a large majority of correspondence is associated with the Centennial Ball.

Jerry Antos and Michael Perdoncin Oral History Interview

Jerry Antos is a retired Lieutenant for the SUNY Maritime College campus police force. Michael Perdoncin was a coworker of Antos and is the current Lieutenant for the SUNY Maritime College campus police force. In this interview they both reminisce on their time spent at SUNY Maritime college, how things have changed since Jerry Antos started in the 1980's, the trials and tribulations of being a campus police officer, and their favorite work stories.

In the interview Phyl talks about his life leading up to his Maritime career, his time spent at the New York Maritime Academy from the Summer of 1944 to his graduation in October 1946, the people he knew while he was at the Academy, his time on the training ship USMSTS American Pilot (also known as Empire State I), and the differences between today's mariners and mariners in the 1940s.
