David Epstein Summer Sea Term Films, 1966-1980
Content Description
This collection consists of 12 reels of film (all Super 8 or 8mm) dated from the 1960s-1980 depicting summer sea terms on the Maritime College training ships Empire State IV (training ship from 1959-1973) and the Empire State V (training ship from 1973 - 1990). Footage shows training drills, oceanography experiments, and leisure activities on the ships and at international ports.

Biographical / Historical
Maritime College is famous for its distinctive, hands-on approach to education. Every summer cadets train on the school's training ship, as part of their preparation towards becoming merchant marine officers.
David Epstein was an Associate Professor in the Science Department teaching Oceanography from 1964 to 1995.
