David Epstein Summer Sea Term Films, 1966-1980

Content Description

This collection consists of 12 reels of film (all Super 8 or 8mm) dated from the 1960s-1980 depicting summer sea terms on the Maritime College training ships Empire State IV (training ship from 1959-1973) and the Empire State V (training ship from 1973 - 1990). Footage shows training drills, oceanography experiments, and leisure activities on the ships and at international ports.

Abstract

This collection consists of the logbooks from the U.S.S Empire State VI training ship used by the State University of New York Maritime College to train students for the merchant marines and the naval reserves.
