Scope and Contents

Captain Olivet's night orders for the cruises of the Empire State II training ship from 1946, through 1950. Daily entries (typically a few paragraphs each) contain information about weather, sea, and traffic conditions, as well as orders to be carried out while the captain is resting. There is a single entry for 1951.

Biographical Note

Alfred Francis Olivet, CAPT (USNR), served as Master of the Empire State II Training Ship from 1946-1963. He was a 1921 graduate of the New York State Nautical School.

These logs were discovered among our Maritime Heritage book collection. Additional night order logs created by Olivet have not yet been located. They are either lost or part of the processing backlog.
