Abstract

This collection documents the business activities of Flying Finn, Inc., which produced wooden pleasure boats in the 1950s and early '60s. Contents include company correspondence, advertising proofs and photographs of product lines, blueprints and drawings of boat models, and a history of the company.

Herbert Lee Seward Collection of Naval Architectural Plans, Technical Specifications, and Other Material, 1889-1955

Abstract

Collection of naval architectural plans, naval architectural and engineering specifications, and subject files addressing various aspects of ship construction and components, assembled by Mr. Seward, a naval architect, marine engineer, and educator. The architectural plans, created by the firm William Cramp and Sons, date from the early 20th century. Some items in the collection were probably originally obtained by two colleagues of Mr. Seward, Axel Rossell and Horace H. Thayer.

The collection documents the activities of the Hudson River Pilots Association, the professional organization of state and federally licensed harbor pilots for the Hudson River. The collection includes pilot log books, summary ledgers, meeting minutes, a members’ agreement, bylaws, and a New York State Senate bill.

Abstract

This collection documents the activities of the Board of Commissioners of Pilots of the State of New York, the licensing and regulatory body for maritime pilots in the Port of New York/New Jersey, Long Island and Block Island Sound, and Hudson River Districts. The collection includes log books for station boats, pilot boats, and incoming and outgoing ships; minutes of board meetings, personnel records, and tide tables.

Roy Morris Photographs of the SS Morro Castle, 1934-1935

Scope and Contents This collection consists of nine photographs of the SS Morro Castle taken from a pier in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The images depict the vessel after it caught fire on its route from Havana to New York and was stranded on a sand bar near the Jersey shore (137 people died in the disaster). Eight of the photos were taken on September 9th, 1934, right after the disaster took place.
