Scope and Contents

This series comprises the records of the Sailors' Snug Harbor Business Office on Greene St. in Manhattan. It includes real-estate and property transactions, insurance information, act and bylaws, financials, legal documents and proceedings, and records pertaining to the management of the Staten Island facility.

Conditions Governing Access

Appointments to examine materials must be made in advance. Please e-mail library@sunymaritime.edu for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Files containing personal information about residents are restricted for 50 years from the date of death of the individual. If the decease death is unknown, the files are closed for 72 years from the date the record was created.

25 Linear Feet (47 standard document boxes, 12 half-size document boxes, and 27 volumes.)

Arrangement of Materials

The series is arranged into sub-series that reflect the different divisions or functions of the Business Office. The sub-series are Real Estate and Property, Insurance, Management of the Staten Island Facility, Acts and Bylaws, Financial, and Legal.

These records originated from the Sailors' Snug Harbor business office on Greene Street in Manhattan.

The filing scheme used at the Greene St. business office in Manhattan was maintained by the archivist when arranging these records.

For ease of access, materials concerning residents were integrated into Series I: Inmates, and materials concerning the Trustees were integrated into in Series II: Board of Trustees.
