 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

These volumes contain essential information about residents, including their duration of maritime service, reason for admission, birth and death dates, nation of origin, religious affiliation, and disposition of personal effects after death. Records also indicate whether a resident had received any sanctions (called "taboos" in 19th-century sailors' parlance) for violating institutional rules, especially with regards to possessing or using alcohol. Earlier register books contain less information.
