Series III: Personnel Records, 1849-1966
Scope and Contents
Series III: Personnel records (four volumes, 1849-1966) include lists of pilots and their addresses and records indicating progress through the apprenticeship system, from when an apprentice is approved through promotion to the boatkeeper grade (usually two to three years after entry into the pilot service) and eventually licensure. Names of boats appear with their boatkeepers or pilots as well, along with the boat’s condition or disposition, for example, if a boat was lost.
