Series III: Articles and Essays, 1928-1952
Scope and Contents
McMurray's biographical essays recount specific incidents in his maritime career, from his training-ship days ("Schoolship Life in the Old St. Mary's") to his naval service in the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II ("Merchant Seamen in War"). In other essays, he comments on prominent or colorful figures in maritime history ("With Reference to Admiral Luce," My Most Unforgettable Character") and provides insights into the training and career of a Merchant Marine ("Incidents and Impressions in the Life of a Merchant Seaman," "The Seeds of Nautical Education"). A few items are copies of work by other writers on maritime subjects.
