Newspaper Articles on the Empire State Formerly the U.S.S. Hydrus (AKA 28)

The Joseph Gerson Collection comprises primarily of materials that were either given to Gerson through his efforts as Alumni Association reunion recruiter or with the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Shuyler. Additional items found in the collection also come from Gerson’s own personal collection that he considered significant. Items within box one of the collection include Gerson’s correspondences with alumnus of SUNY Maritime College; newspaper clippings mentioning SUNY Maritime and its T.S. Empire State ships, historic photographs, and notices of awards received to Joseph Gerson. Of special note are the records on New York State Maritime Academy (NYSMA) Class of 1947 files which contain some biographical information on the 1947 students.
