Contents of Collection
The Phylipp Dilloway Papers contain materials from his time at sea on the training ship USMSTS American Pilot (also known as the Empire State I), his later career as a consultant for Dunlap & Associates, research materials associated with his book "Class of October 1946", and other materials from his career and personal life. These materials include correspondences, photographs, reports, a journal he kept when at sea, two bridge coats he wore while at sea, and other artifacts.
During his time on the American Pilot training ship, Dilloway kept a journal in which he would record his daily life. The collection includes the journal, as well as two bridge coats Dilloway used during his time in the Naval reserves.
A collection of reports, co-authored by Dilloway, are a representation of his time as a consultant at Dunlap & Associates. The collection of four reports represent various topics on different maritime affairs that Dilloway investigated for the United States government during his time as a consultant.
In the early 2000s Dilloway spent a great amount of his free time compiling and editing a publication about his graduating class at the New York State Maritime Academy. The book, titled "Class of October 1946" was published in 2004, and includes a short biography of each of Dilloway's classmates, Dilloway included. The collection contains a physical and digital copy of the book, as well as all the associated research materials Dilloway compiled during the editing process. The research materials include correspondences with fellow alumni, notes, photographs, souveniers collected from his classmates, and draft biographies.
Photographic prints consist of photographs taken of Dilloway and his fellow classmates during a ceremony held at SUNY Maritime; original and copies of photographs for "Class of October 1946"; and other photographs donated by Dilloway.
The collection also includes DVDs of a plaque dedication ceremony held in 2005 at the US Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington D. C. for the class of Oct. 1946 and two cassette tapes of classmates reminiscing at a mini reunion in 2003.
