Photographs, 1908 - 1953
Scope and Contents
A large quantity of photos were taken on cruises of the Newport (schoolship of the New York Nautical School), as a student (1911-1912) and then as Chief Engineer (1918-1922). Additionally, there are images of the reconstruction of Fort Schuyler in the 1930s (which became Maritime College's shoreside home) and images pertaining to Tode's time as Chairman of the college's Board of Visitors from 1942 to 1954. A smaller quanitity of images depict Tode's work with the Propeller Club and other maritime organizations and employers. Additionally, two photos depict the launching of the U.S.S. St. Mary's in 1944 (named after the first Schoolship of the New York Nautical School); and a binder of photos pertain to the model of the schoolship Newport that was donated to Maritime College in 1960.
